Kemalpasa is an important division point on this part of the TCDD (Turkish State Railways) as it is a base for several dozen big steam locomotives.

their train. Tea made from hot water of the super-heater of a big steam engine is some of
the best to be had in Turkey.

The 56.0's are used as helpers and bankers for the hard climb to Ulugecit Pass. Seeing three or four of these engines on the heavier coal trains on the pass is quite common.
