Kemalpasa (pronounced keh-MAL-pasha) is an important division point on this part of the TCDD (Turkish State Railways) as it is a base for several dozen big steam locomotives used in the heavy mineral as well as seasonal grain and cereals traffic between the furtile north-central Anatolian plains and the mineral-rich mountains of the Black Sea with the industrial population centers of the Marmara Sea region.
